What would you like to hear on show 25?

Sonic the Hedgehog™ 3 (Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, rated E for Everyone – Comic Mischief, 800 Wii Points): Sonic and Tails are back for another adventure as they again battle the evil Dr. Eggman (aka Dr. Robotnik), who is desperately trying to collect all the Chaos Emeralds to rebuild his Death Egg. Our heroes must again find the Chaos Emeralds before Dr. Eggman does, but winning the race won’t be easy this time – a new adversary, Knuckles the Echidna, has arrived on the scene and will do whatever he can to keep Sonic and Tails from reaching their goal. Grab all the golden rings, find various bonus zones and overcome Knuckles and Dr. Eggman as you rocket through the third chapter in Sonic’s adventures.

Neutopia II (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, rated E for Everyone – Mild Fantasy Violence, 600 Wii Points): Experience improved graphics and controls in this exciting sequel to the action role-playing game Neutopia. Take on the role of the main hero’s son and watch as the story begins with the apparent revival of Dirth, the evil demon. Once again you’ll need to rely on your magic compass and the information you’ve gathered to find entrances to labyrinths and defeat the bosses in them. Make your way through the field, which can be tricky at times, to search for and find hidden information and items, or move blocks and destroy walls to uncover secret rooms. Like the original, this game has a save function, a finely tuned difficulty level and a fast-paced story, making it truly an RPG that everyone can enjoy.

Nintendo makes an apparence at the AARP 50+ convention with “Wii Fit”

I am not the only crazy person out there playing Pokémon out there.  Here is the latest stat sheet from Nintendo.

Pokémon® games have always been best-sellers. But the huge popularity of the portable Nintendo DS™ and the Wii™ home video game system has put the Pokémon craze into a whole new category.

Just check out these statistics:

* According to the independent NPD Group, through July Pokémon Diamond is the best-selling video game of the year on any system, while Pokémon Pearl ranks No. 3.

* The newly released Pokémon Battle Revolution already ranks at No. 5 on the list of best-selling Wii games for the year.

* Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl for Nintendo DS have sold more than 3 million copies in the United States alone.

* Pokémon games have helped boost sales of Nintendo hardware. According to the NPD Group, Wii and Nintendo DS were again the two best-selling video game systems in the United States in July.

“These hard numbers show that the Pokémon franchise and Nintendo’s systems are striking a chord with players of all ages and drawing in huge numbers of new players year after year,” says George Harrison, Nintendo of America’s senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. “But anecdotally we’re also seeing that these new Pokémon games are appealing to older players, the same ones who played the original Pokémon games when they debuted in the United States almost 10 years ago.”

Grown men and women with kids of their own proudly announce they are training Pokémon and having a blast doing it. Gamer site www.Penny-Arcade.com ran a four-part comic about the artist’s Pokémania, while Kristin Brandt of ManicMommies.com posted: “I have become obsessed. I have played for many, many hours (I can’t even admit to how many – it’s embarrassing)… And I can’t seem to stop! There are more Pokémon to capture, more levels to conquer and more badges to earn!”

I have to add this note, in working on this article, I came across these skins for the Wii Remote and Nunchuck.  It looks like an oficially licensed product.  But pretty neat!

Starting this Friday Obscure II will go on sale in most European territories, the remaining territories will follow during the course of September. Stefan Layer, CMSO/VP of Playlogic International N.V: “I am really looking forward to seeing Obscure II available in stores. This game deserves to be a success and the enthusiastic feedback from the press only strengthens me in that opinion. For all territories we are working with experienced distribution partners to secure adequate shelf space.”

A little housecleaning/update on whats new and whats history!

There is a difference though in the Australian and North American version. One example is the ability to exchange items in offline mode by entering codes into your Wii for extra items. And although there is no multi-player available, it has been hinted by the games publisher Techmo, that there might be pay-to-play downloadable content.

So lets see if the nine month delay/wait was worth it.

Metroid Prime 3 Comes Out Today!
Nintendo busts counterfiters in Mexico

This month has been coined by NOA(Nintendo of America) as “The Month of Metroid”. And they have delivered. First was the release of first classic title on the NES early this month. Followed by “Super Metroid” on SNES through the virtual console.

There has been a lot of people gankin on the game, saying “it was a GameCube game, not a Wii game”. My answer to that is….so what, it’s Metroid. One of the best Nintendo franchises.

Now I can’t help but mention that tomorrow there will be some stiff competition for Samus. Out on the DS tomorrow is the sequel to the hit brain trainer “Brain Age”, which will be called, you guessed it, “Brain Age 2″, but not only that, Nintendo will be bundling it with their new colored DS Lite, which is crimson(dark red) on the top half, and onyx(black) on the bottom half.

Another HUGE release, which I have played and have a review up at Liveforxbox.com is “BioShock”. This game has been gaining and gaining more and more steam. This is going to be a trifecta of competition, so if you have the coin i recommend all three.

Here is how it works. Lets say you have about 10 games you no longer play and you don’t want to get the crappy trade in values that certain game stores give you. Well, you to Goozex, post your games in “Your Library” section. Now from there you will see what the point value of the game is; they don’t use a dollar value. You will also see your turn. The turn is your place in line to trade your game.

Once it’s time to trade your game, Goozex sends an e-mail to both you and the buyer indicating that a match has been made. Goozex provides address information, etc. You mail it off, then wait for your positive feedback. In the beginning of your account you need positive feedback to get your points. After a few trades you don’t have to wait.

Once you have points, you need to pick up trade credits which are a buck a trade and sell in blocks of 5. Now pick your game, wait in line. Now you may say “Hey! I’m in the 50th spot, well that may not hold true because the people ahead of you may not have credits or points and they will be skipped. But this is REALLY cool, I have no complaints, this is something to check out.

By the way my first trade was for “Halo 2″ for 300 points, which equates to $15 bucks! How can you not go wrong. But do research on the game you want, and make sure you’re getting the deal.

Brian is on vacation so am I, but I did have the opportunity to interview founder Jonathan Dugan. We are having that interview on the next show, which may be me doing it solo.

So it looks like everything is locked down except in Japan, but we all deserve first dibs.  For those that don’t know about the game, it’s something worth checking out.  But for those that want further clarification, here is the fact sheet that Nintendo has provvided us with:

“The world’s enormously popular party video game is getting a lot crazier in Mario Party 8. Whether you’re shaking up cola cans or lassoing barrels, you and your friends will be drawn into the action like never before using the Wii Remote™.

• Play with motion control: Players row their way through a river race, punch a statue to pieces, steer race cars, mopeds and go-karts and handle a balancing pole while walking a tightrope.

• Play using the Wii Remote as a Pointer: Shoot at Boos in a haunted house, drag and drop toppings in a cake-decorating competition, select the correct answers in game show challenges.

• Play using the Wii Remote’s buttons: Players jump and pummel their way through a football brawl, and hop and run across a field of spinning platforms

• Mario Party 8 also includes dozens of new minigames, six new party boards and many new game modes. In a series first, players can transform their characters into many forms, such as player-smashing boulders and coin-sucking vampires.

• Mario Party 8 also includes “extra-large” minigames like Star Carnival Bowling and Table Menace. One to four players can play Mario Party 8, each with a Wii Remote.

Game storyline: In Mario Party 8, a hyperactive emcee has invited Mario™, Peach and the rest of the crew to his carnival, a perfect setting for the dynamic spectacle of the Wii game play. Mario Party 8 keeps the surprises coming with minigames that draw upon the Wii Remote’s motion, pointing and button control in a variety of ways. Players always know how to jump into the action by watching an animated tutorial that shows how to use the Wii Remote.

How to progress through the game: Following tradition, Mario Party 8 takes the social, strategic game play of board games and adds breaks for quick, action-oriented minigames. In the main mode, players travel across six boards in search of Stars, landing on spaces that are helpful (example: giving coins) or a hindrance (example: sending Bowser in to mess with the player). Several variations for these boards tweak the main goals to enhance game play for solo sessions, two-player games and three- to four-player games.

In addition, Mario Party 8 includes four more minigame-infused kinds of special games, such as Tic-Tac Drop, where players earn the right to put the next mark on the board by winning a minigame.

Characters: Mario Party games are a celebration of all things Mario, so you can play as 14 classic characters, the widest selection yet for the series, including newcomers Hammer Bro and Blooper. You’ll also bump into many old friends and foes that span 20+ years of Mario games.

Special powers/weapons/moves/features: Beyond using the Wii Remote’s motion and pointer control, this eighth game in the Mario Party series goes its own way with two changes:

• Players can transform their character using candy power-ups. Examples: When Peach eats Bowlo Candy, she’ll turn into a Peach-faced ball and bowl over characters to get their coins. When Wario™ eats Vampire Candy, he’ll sprout wings and fly off to suck the coins from all other players.

• A more engaging view of the action puts the player “on the board” with his traveling character, no longer far above the whole board looking down.”

Brand new galleries are open for “Brain Age Academy Wii Degree” and “Mario Party 8″.  Yeah we know it is being released May 29th.  We will have more shots from the game later today or early tommorow.

Right now there are only a few but by the end of the week as things build up, expect more shots.

 Sadly we are not killing things with vegetables. The thought was, was that we would get “Super Mario Bros. 2: Mario Madness”, but it just wasn’t in the cards for us in the U.S.

We did get a nice selection though, the gem in my opinion is the pre Square-Enix game “ActRaiser” which is part sidescroller and top down urban planning sim.

“Kid Chameleon” hit the Sega Genesis end and the popular “J.J. and Jeff” for the TG-16.

Brian returns from a gambling junket. A couple of nice releases around the world. A “Sega” week for Europe and Australia. A nice list of games in Japan, including “Super Mario Brothers 2″(The Japanese version, also known as “The Lost Levels”, yet we wait still). Neutopia looks like a cool game. I hope we get it, from what we have read it is a lot like “Legend of Zelda” on the TurboGrafx-16. We have a winnner for the “Phrase that Pays!” contest. Congrats to Brian B. who got the phrase. We also talk about gaming stores and how they try to take you for every cent(Just some tips to get the best re-sell value for your game).
